LIMINAL
Lunar Gala is Pittsburgh’s largest annual student-run fashion show and carries a long legacy in Carnegie Mellon University’s history. The theme for 2024’s show is: Liminal (of, relating to, or being an intermediate state, phase, or condition : in-between, transitional).
As a member of the web design team, I was tasked with developing a desktop and mobile interface that embody the concept of liminality. We worked closely with the creative team as a whole to create a unified visual system covering print, motion, merchandise, social media assets, and more.

Branding guidelines
Our team explored various themes surrounding the concept of the temporary. The use of glass and frost reflects the theme of impermanence by highlighting qualities of fragility, transparency, and the fleeting nature of moments. Frost’s ephemeral beauty and glass’s delicate, ever-changing interactions with light emphasize the scarcity and transience of what cannot be preserved.

The website's primary interaction mechanism revolves around a "click, hold, release" functionality. While the scrolling wheel rotates automatically, users can click a panel to navigate to a specific page, hold to pause and explore, and release to return to the main navigation page seamlessly. This reflects the theme of Liminal, capturing fleeting focus, brief pauses, and the inevitability of letting go to continue the flow.
The People Page draws inspiration from Polaroid pictures, capturing moments of each Lunar Gala Creative Team member in a snapshot-like format.
The Lines Page replicates the dynamics of a runway system, blending 2D panel design with 3D space. Users can navigate the lines seamlessly by moving their mouse up or down.

As a member of the Lunar Gala production team, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in putting on a show. My role on the web team has taught me how to navigate the creative constraints set by the directors while finding ways to bring my own ideas to the table.
Working alongside other creatives has been especially rewarding, with the collaborative process sparking new ideas and unexpected transformations. It’s been exciting to see initial concepts evolve into something entirely unique.
